Special Style is a simplified control scheme option introduced in Tekken 8. Similar to the "modern controls" option in Street Fighter 6, it combines Tekken 7’s Easy Combo and Assist features into a more streamlined, beginner friendly format. Special Style can be toggled on/off during a match (L1/LB by default).

In this mode, each button is mapped to a recommended move or combo for that character. The system picks moves depending on your current state and the directional input you're pressing, e.g. back + Specialty Move is usually a quick punishment tool, such as a 1,2 jab. Air Combos can be slightly different depending on which buttons are pressed in the sequence.
You can check what move or sequence each button is mapped to in the Special Style section of the movelist, along with it's properties and use cases.
Special Style is meant primarily as a casual mode for new players to enjoy Tekken 8 without immediately being intimidated by complex inputs and mechanics. However, because Special Style automates and simplifies your moveset, you’re very limited in your options. Combos in this mode are very low damage and are far from optimal, and for most characters there is only a single power crush and throw available. In addition, the Special Style window in the corner always highlights the button you pressed, meaning it essentially telegraphs your attack for your opponent. Using it in Ranked is therefore ill-advised.
