This page is for Tekken 8. For Tekken 7, see Yoshimitsu counterplay (Tekken 7).
Overview
Yoshimitsu is a highly tricky character, known for having one of the largest movesets and largest array of unblockable attacks in the series. Like many other characters in TEKKEN 8, his offense has been improved to the point where he has fairly strong 50/50s off of practical situations.
Key Moves to Punish
Move | Punish | Purpose |
---|---|---|
Bad Stomach db+1+2,1+2 |
SWL OR Duck Ducking will restrict your movement SWL is harder but preferred |
Unblockable. Used in oki and neutral. Deceptively active, so when ducking, the punish may need to be delayed. |
Sword Sweep FC.DF+1 |
SWR OR Interrupt | Unblockable. Mostly used for oki or after a Heat Engager, but its speed can catch you off guard at pretty much any point. Since it's a full crouch move, watch for him crouching and anticipate this attack. |
Enma's Flame 3,1 Enma's Cleaning Sword 3,2,1+2 |
Duck or stand block 50/50 Safer to crouch if Yoshi has Heat |
A true 50/50 off of a fairly decent neutral and pressure poke. The 1 followup is a duckable high Heat Engager that goes into his flying dragonfly stance on block, and the 2 is a -14 mid string that deals 40 damage total. |
- Remember that both unblockables have unique weak sides. Sword right, spit left.
- Float combos may need to be labbed to reliably deal with Dragonfly stance.
