Victor is a stylish Jacques of All Trades and one of the most accessible characters in the roster. With access to a good selection of solid pokes, counter hit utility, pressure moves, stance mixups, and defensive options, he is able to express any playstyle.
Being a master of CQB and one of the only weapon characters, many of his moves are unparryable, and attacks using Takemikazuchi, his signature katana, boast incredible range and/or chip damage on block.
His two stances, Iai (IAI) and Perfumer (PRF) are often entered with frame advantage via his solid punishment tools such as his 1,1,2 (i10) or uf+1,1 (i13), but can also slip into stance for pressure via string mixups such as b+1,2 or uf+1,1 who both have the ability to enter PRF and IAI respectively on their first hit as long as your opponent is conditioned to respect the extensions. Most importantly, Victor can simply force his opponents into a IAI mixup thanks to f,f,F+2, an advancing mid counter hit launcher that can enter IAI with advantage on block, or f,f,F+1+2, a weapon low of similar speed that enters IAI with advantage on hit.
During Heat, Victor's Takemikazuchi becomes empowered, improving some of his sword attacks by making them safe or even more advantageous on block. This is especially good once Victor takes his opponents to the wall thanks to his strong comboes, where his empowered IAI stance grants him exceptional okizeme and wall pressure.
Victor's versatility comes with the cost of not standing out in any particular area compared to the rest of the roster. While his key moves are quite good, they can all be either very steppable, committal, or sometimes both, forcing him to play situations mindfully in order to not get hard-countered. Finally, his pokes are not the most rewarding, especially his lows, forcing him to score counter hits and take risks in order to keep up with his opponents.
- Counter Hit Arsenal: Access to some of the fastest, safest, and/or most effective counter hit tools in the entire game.
- Strong Neutral: Excellent approach tools coupled with overall strong safe mids and good keepout tools make Victor good at controlling the neutral.
- Punishing: Remarkable block & whiff punishment coupled with consistent damaging comboes and some of the best wall carry in the roster.
- Iaijutsu Master: At the wall, Victor's Iai stance grants him some of the strongest okizeme and wall pressure in the game, especially during Heat.
- Accessibility: Very low execution requirements as well as an overall very simple gameplan make Victor one of the most accessible characters.
- Super Spy CQB: As a weapons specialist and CQB expert, Victor is one of the most difficult characters to successfully parry.
- Poor Tracking: Most of his key moves suffer from having pretty bad tracking, requiring good timing and movement against aware opponents.
- Lackluster Lows: Low attacks are mostly not rewarding enough to match the risk, and if they are rewarding at all, they are often launch punishable on block.
- Old Man Recovery: Recovery is quite high overall, making whiff punishment much easier for the opponent.
- Risky Defensive Options: While overall good, his defensive options are very committal and can be heavily punished if the opponent is ready to call them out.
